A friend was saying last night how she thinks it's interesting that there isn't more overlap between fic writers and rpers, given that rp is essentially just taking turns writing fic, round-robin style. I see her point and I've got to agree, because after all, if you can do one, you can surely do the other, right? Only to a certain degree, though.
I do find rp easier, because I have a partner to bounce off of when ideas are thin on the ground, and I delight in the interaction and the bonding experience involved in creating something with another person. On the other hand, if you have a vision, solo writing is the only real way to see that through to your complete satisfaction without somebody else throwing a wrench in the works. You also get to work at your own pace, and heavily edit to your heart's content.
I've been thinking about the project I mentioned the other day, and I really think that if I can sit down and sort myself out, I'd like to try and host it. I've got a few ideas in the pipeline for my own selections.
It's so sad to me to keep finding comms that look good, only to notice that they haven't been active for months, or for years. I have had some pretty decent success in finding people to subscribe to (and who have mutually subscribed to me, hello!) though, and I'm immensely grateful for that. Now to get over myself enough to actually initiate conversation with people.

Date: 2022-05-05 20:35 (UTC)Hello! I don't talk much about Star Trek on my journal--that mostly happens on Tumblr--but I love it a lot and it's wonderful to have Bones's scowling face on my reading list.

Date: 2022-05-05 20:48 (UTC)That works out great for me because I often have trouble identifying new people, but I will always know who are. :D

Date: 2022-05-06 19:35 (UTC)I'm still using my original name on Tumblr, too, and I've still got my original layout on Dreamwidth, though I recently changed the color scheme from red to green. Because it was time for a change, but not too much of a change. :D

Date: 2022-05-05 22:46 (UTC)I've never done RP. Although it reminds me of how we neighborhood kids used to play Star Trek. We would take turns being Captain Kirk - and the person who was Kirk that day got to tell the others what to do! LOL. Needless to say, everyone wanted to be Kirk. ;) When it wasn't the boys' turn, they wanted to be Spock. When it wasn't the other girl's turn, she was Chapel. I chose McCoy or Rand.
