Today, I finally made myself run a handful of errands I've been putting off.

I lugged several heavy boxes of book donations into the library. I took in my recycling. I went to the post office to (SAFELY) drop my ballot and buy stamps for my stack of holiday cards, and then I stopped at Walgreens on the way home for a couple of items I needed.

Errands: done.
Lunch: had.

I'm going to try and knock out some drabbles for [community profile] ficortreat this evening.

Also, last night I watched another great animated film: The Wild Robot. It's cute. It's pretty funny. It also made me cry four separate times, so there is that. Would recommend!

I've just got to drop a movie rec, here.

Tonight I saw Flow, and what I have to say is this: if it doesn't win an award for best animated film, there is no justice in this world.

It's a beautifully animated film with absolutely no dialog, stunning visuals, a beautiful score, and a quality that appeals really hard to empathy and emotion despite being quite simple. It's a quasi-fantasy in a post-apocalyptic world that is swept away in a great flood. As the waters rise, the protagonist, a solitary black cat, ends up meeting and befriending other animals along the course of the story.

These are "real," feral creatures that don't walk or talk or any of the other things animals often do in animated films, but they are slightly more intelligent in that they are more sentient (sapient?) in their ability to reason and to do other things actual wild animals wouldn't be able to do (like steer a boat).

It's a real treat that I'll recommend to anyone who will listen.

IS2G it never ends.

Just a long string of inconveniences.

First I get home from vacation and I get really sick, then the fiasco with food getting left in my baking hot car for a week, then the rear driver's side window breaking, then my laptop almost exploding, and now my tire pressure sensor is on and one of my front tires looks very low like I definitely punctured it or in some other way developed a serious leak.

I've got to get my car to the tire center tomorrow, which is about 15 minutes away. Just gotta get there without anything bad happening, and they will assess/fix my tire for free (they do that, if you originally bought your tires from them). I'm really hoping I don't need new tires because yo I cannot afford that right now but also I've had these ones on there for a really really long time so honestly? It's probably time.

In other news, I'm about halfway through a new movie called Trap. Since it's an M. Night Shyamalan movie I know there will be a twist here someplace that will determine whether or not I end up liking it as a whole, but it's definitely keeping me riveted so far!

In other other news, at the store I found, of all things, S'mores flavored instant ramen and I could not resist buying one to try. I opened it and found tiny marshmallows inside, and chocolate powder. It's literally ramen noodles in chocolate water and mini marshmallows and I expected it to be nasty but y'all it's not. I'm so bewildered. I actually want to pick up a couple more???

I was reminded today of a movie I watched a long time ago, once, and never again because I couldn't find it again. I half wondered if I had just dreamed the whole thing.

It's called The Brass Teapot and it's about this couple who ends up in possession of... well... a brass teapot, and they soon find out that

cut for vague, non-descriptive talk of self-harm just in case )

I always thought the premise would make for a really fascinating AU, but I've never been able to work out what fandom I could use, or what pairing.

HM.

Feeling pretty good today. I opted out of my work's holiday party so I could stay home, sleep in, rest, mess around, and knock a few things off my to-do list. I've just been taking care of some miscellaneous tasks and listening to Christmas music.

My finger is hurting less, though it's still a little unwieldy with all the bandages. Thank you to everyone who said something nice to me about that. I'm sure that if I'm careful with it, it'll heal quickly enough.

With all writing responsibilities already met for the rest of the year, I've just been having a nice time flitting around dropping tiny treats here and there over at [community profile] fandomtrees.

Tomorrow, I plan to do the exact same thing.

What are some of your favorite Christmas movies? So far I've watched Arthur Christmas, Klaus, Frozen, Love Hard, Christmas at the Golden Dragon, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Jingle All The Way, and Spirited. Before Christmas is over, I'll also be watching A Christmas Story, Love Actually, Home Alone, Elf, and Noelle, as is tradition. Anything else I should work into my holiday movie queue?

I got it in my head that I might see some good change in my life if I have not only a general to-do list, but a daily to-do list as well. Put some routine in my life, and develop some good habits. From here on out, in addition to work and whatever else I've got going on, I will do the following each and every day, circumstances permitting:

+ Take my vitamins.
+ Drink 2 liters of water.
+ Drink at least one cup of tea.
+ Stretch for 20 minutes.
+ Meditate for 20 minutes.
+ Exercise for 30 minutes.
+ Read for 30 minutes.
+ Write/Edit for 30 minutes.

Of course, if I want to do more of any of these things, great. I just can't allow myself to do less. We'll see how that goes.

Woke up to a disappointing message from a friend, this morning. We were supposed to go to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights this Sunday, and we've been looking forward to it. We got tickets at a pretty steep discount through his work, but then Universal canceled and refunded our tickets, because evidently purchasing them through his work was against the terms of service? I'm still a little confused about that, because if that's true then I'm not sure how it was set up to allow it in the first place, and a bunch of his co-workers had also bought tickets that were canceled and refunded. He tried to buy new ones, but this weekend is all sold out. We got new tickets for next weekend, so we still get to go, so that's good. Now I just gotta be hype for way longer.

I also didn't have therapy today, even though I usually have it every Thursday, because my therapist was away and unavailable. I'll have it Saturday evening instead, which is a very weird time for it, but at least we're still on!

My yearly October movie marathon is in full swing. I might have mentioned it before, but every October I watch one scary/spooky/gory/festive movie each day. So far I've watched:

1) my best friend's exorcism
2) sissy
3) the red book ritual
4) scream
5) interview with the vampire
6) the witch

If you've got any recs, leave 'em! There are some movies I watch every year, but I'm also looking for new things all the time.

28. What characters have you roleplayed as? asked by Danny from Discord

Ahh, lots. A whole parade of OCs over the course of my RP career, for starters.

Jubilee from X-Men was one of my first canons, before I even knew what the word 'canon' meant. Schuldich from Weiss Kreuz. Rachel from Animorphs. Dean Winchester from Supernatural, Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, and Jim Moriarty from BBC Sherlock. Jack O'Neil and Daniel Jackson from Stargate: SG-1. Donna Noble from Doctor Who. Remus Lupin from Harry Potter. Derek Hale from Teen Wolf. Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto from, again, X-Men, though this time from the reboot/prequel movies. Illya Kuryakin and Gaby Teller from The Man From Uncle. Leonard McCoy from AOS Trek, of course, and recently I've also tried my hand vaguely at Jim Kirk and Gaila.

There are more, it's just that it's 2am and I can't remember them all at the moment.

It's hot again, and I'm not impressed. Tomorrow is supposed to be the last truly hot day before it cools back down again, and hopefully this time it stays down.

I went and saw Don't Worry Darling today, and while I was worried that the best part about it might be the hilarious behind-the-scenes discourse, I actually ended up liking it quite a bit! Florence Pugh really carried the hell out of that movie.

Afterward, I stopped at Trader Joe's and found a Black Tea & Boba ice cream, which is chef's kiss. Tastes like someone made me some black milk tea with boba and then stuck it in the freezer. Delicious.

I am in another slump. I have a ton of fics to work on. I have a bunch of RPs awaiting replies. But I simply cannot write at the moment, for whatever reason. Maybe the heat? Maybe I'm getting another case of the sads and am really needing my therapy appointment this week. Whatever the case, all I can bring myself to do is binge episodes of this pizza cooking competition I discovered called Best In Dough.

Hope you're all well!
southernmedicine: (well i'll be)
Haven't been hanging around for the past couple of days, just on account of not having much to say. Since the last time I've posted, though, I've seen both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Everything, Everywhere, All The Time, and both sure were an experience. Was sort of fun hitting up a double feature of sorts; a buffet of multidimensional chaos.

Also, logged in to find that the little ficlet thing I wrote for [community profile] fandomweekly ended up scoring first place! Thank you to anyone here who may have voted for me. Not gonna lie, as someone who is only just trying to break back into the wonderful world of solo writing, it felt good to see. It felt real good.
