2025-01-24 00:19Is anyone here German, or, barring that, does anyone here know a lot about German culture?
When my roommate's fiancee moved in, I immediately noticed a thing she does; I immediately noticed it because it quickly turned out to be a pet peeve of mine: when she leaves the table, she doesn't push her chair in. I'm not talking like, it's out a little, I'm talking about she pushes back, gets up, walks away, and leaves her chair like in the middle of the kitchen.
This quickly got really annoying to me, and I noticed it kind of irked my roommate, too. But, you know, we're getting through it. Whenever I find a chair out I just push it in, though sometimes I push it in a way that makes a lot of noise against the kitchen tiles so that everyone can hear me doing it from wherever they are in the house, just to be petty.
So, the other day her parents came from Germany, and they are staying here with us until after the wedding. I was out all day, but I just came home, and found ALL the chairs out. One of them is straight up almost touching the sliding glass door that is about four feet away from the table. THEY ALL DO IT.
So I'm trying to find out, essentially, if this is a German thing or if this is specific to their family.
