Got back from my trip this evening, took a bath, and immediately fell asleep on my bed while trying to listen to some youtube. Man was I exhausted. Still am, honestly. Got out of bed to eat dinner, drink some water, and watch the new episode of The Last Of Us. Now I'm on the phone with Blair, keeping her company on her long drive home from the Minneapolis airport to her home in Wisconsin (roughly two and a half to three hours).
I'm tracking her on a weather map so I can tell her where all the rain and thunder and lightning is, it's kinda fun haha.
Anyway!
I'll itemize the trip, as I do.
Day One
After I fetched Blair from the airport, I took her straight to Mazaya, a little hole in the wall Greek place that has been our favorite since we started dating. We eat there every time she visits. We got Boba afterward, then went and checked into our motel which... wow. Haha. It wasn't good, y'all. There were cracks and holes in the doors, you could probably see out if you looked through the bottom corner of the door. We witnessed two people doing cocaine off their hands in the parking lot, for fuck's sake.
Anyway though. We hit Target for a few items we needed for the room, hit up Krispe Kreme, and then later because we are utterly ridiculous we then went to a Mochi Donut place and also a place that serves Korean corndogs. A lovely first evening.
Day Two
Star Wars Nite! We slept in, because hell yeah we did. Then we had this amazing feast of a breakfast at a little place called the Broken Yolk Cafe. Because our cosplays take so long to get into, we started getting ready at like 3pm. We finished up preparations, got to the parking lot, on the bus and through the security checkpoint around a little past 6pm.
I was a little self-conscious because the event began at 9pm, the general populace would be kicked out at 8pm, but Star Wars Nite ticket holders were allowed entry at 6pm. So we were decked out in full cosplay mingling with the "normies," yet my embarrassment fears were unfounded, as we were complimented enthusiastically right and left and several people asked for photos with us. For the event, all the cast members were in-character and really sticking with it. We tried so much good food, got so many amazing photos, and met some great people. We went on all the Star Wars rides in cosplay, went to the Rebellion meet up with Rey, a lightsaber instructional, and got to have a few drinks in Oga's Cantina. Just in general a really amazing time.
We got back to the hotel around 2:30am, showered, and utterly crashed.
Day Three
Because we're wild, we decided in addition to Star Wars Nite, we wanted a full day of Disneyland. So Friday was a Disneyland Day start to finish. We closed it out, and I took Blair around to do all kinds of things she's never done, even though I've brought her to Disneyland several times now. She finally got to see the original Haunted Mansion, and we went in the Tiki Room, and went on the Mark Twain riverboat. We left the park for a bit to go to the Grand Californian hotel, where they have a giant Death Star in their lobby made of cake, and a little cafe selling Star Wars treats. Then we took the monorail back into the park for the rest of the night.
Day Four
Last full day. I wanted to show her a lot more of Southern California.
We started off in a yummy hole in the wall place for breakfast, then we struck off for Los Angeles. We went to La Brea Tar Pits, which was quite busy on account of the whole direwolf thing going on in the news right now; The La Brea Tar Pits is home to an enormous direwolf collection. From there we drove through Beverly Hills, up, up, to a beautiful place called the Greystone Mansion (or sometimes Doheny Manor). You're able to stroll the lovely gardens there. Unfortunately a wedding had booked a part of the grounds, so the whole thing wasn't available to us. Still, it was quite pretty, and the view from Los Angeles was amazing.
Then we headed South, stopping for boba along the way, and found ourselves in Long Beach. This particular area boasts the aquarium of the pacific, a peninsula headed by a lighthouse, and of course the Queen Mary just across the harbor. We strolled around for awhile until it got dark, got a snack from one of the food trucks, and then back up to the OC and back to, for a third time, Disney property. This time not for one of the parks, but for tiki drinks, yummy foods, coconut cake and dole whip at Trader Sam's tiki bar. Top tier. Wonderful experience.
Back to home base for some Hotel Time.
Day Five
Last day. Luckily Blair wasn't leaving early or anything, so we did have a decent portion of the day. Check out by 11am, breakfast, and then we just sort of drove around. We found a comic shop to poke around in, got boba (yes AGAIN), and stopped in at Best Buy so she could get a new screen protector for her phone (it got dropped at Disneyland and the screen got cracked, but luckily it was JUST the thick protector over it).
Thennnn I just had to take her to the airport, around 3pm, and then cry as I drove away, as usual. (I am baby).
Short, but we packed a bunch of cool stuff, sweet moments, and amusing things into it. Now to re-set the countdown for July, when she will be back. <3
